Significant investment in Health and Wellbeing at Nexus

Salta Properties is currently undertaking a major $10 million public realm upgrade to Nexus Business Park in Mulgrave, one of Melbourne’s most sought-after commercial developments in the South East.

Salta Properties Managing Director, Sam Tarascio, said that significant investments have been made into state of the art amenities at Nexus so that the estate continues to be a first-class business park for tenants and their employees.

“Work culture has changed significantly in Melbourne due to the extensive lockdown in 2020 and employees are now more than ever seeking to work in environments that offer amenities with a focus on health and wellbeing.

“Nexus is a place where businesses want to stay, so we are working hard to listen to our tenants to meet their needs by reinvesting into the estate so that their employees continue to enjoy coming to work,” said Mr Tarascio.

“Nexus Mulgrave is unique in that the buildings are owned, managed, and therefore upgraded by one company, Salta Properties,” Mr Tarascio added.

The latest revitalisation works at Nexus includes three architecturally designed terraces and connecting foyers at 2, 4 and 6 Nexus Court, providing tenants access to the much-desired outdoor spaces. A 1.4km running track is also being installed, as well as a seven-station outdoor gym circuit and two outdoor picnic areas.

These upgrades are in addition to the existing array of premium amenities offered across the Nexus Business Park, which includes generous car parking, three cafes, childcare centre, 24 hour gym and wellness centre, futsal and basketball court, netball and tennis court, plus a BBQ area and landscaped terrace.

The architect behind the tenant focused changes, Nik Tabain from Gray Puksand, is confident that these refurbishments address the needs of a 21st century workplace, which now puts human experience front and centre.

“I’ve always believed that architecture must respond to the human condition. Decisions regarding scale and spatial volumes, materiality, permeability, aspect and connection to nature must all be made through the lens of the human experience,” said Mr Tabain.

“With everyone working from home last year, evaluation of work-life balance has been a focus. Through the changes being made at Nexus we have tried to reflect all the best aspects of working from home; convenience, comfort and flexibility,” he concluded.

 The decision to invest and further expand the high quality amenity which already exists at Nexus Mulgrave, was in direct response to feedback received via the online Equiem portal, which encouraged tenants to communicate directly with their landlord, Salta Properties.

“Despite the fact that the buildings and the estate already presented exceptionally well, we decided that we wanted to unequivocally position Nexus as the premium office estate in Melbourne – and our $10 million investment in estate upgrade works demonstrates our determination to do so” said Mr. Tarascio.

International Women’s Day 2021

Again this year we year we celebrated International Women’s Day with an inspiring speaker, Laura Piccardi from Uppy who spoke on “Your Life, Your Choice” and shared strategies on how to reduce and manage stress to reap positive impacts on health, professional success, relationships and mental wellbeing.

Looking after our community even when working from home

We have added two new menu items on the Nexus Portal that are designed to give you great work-from-home resources at your fingertips.

We have added two new sections to our Nexus tenant portal to reflect the current work situation.  The On-Demand and Remote Life sections are filled with useful activities, resources and videos to keep both you and the family entertained, informed and productive while we navigate this new working environment.

There is plenty to see and do, but we’ve compiled some of our favourites from each section below.

How we honoured International Women’s Day 2020

March 8 marked not only a very important date in the global calendar, but also in Nexus’ calendar too, as International Women’s’ Day holds a very special place in our hearts.

This year’s IWD theme was #EachforEqual and we invited the inspirational One Roof Founder, Sheree Rubinstein, as our guest speaker.

In keeping with Nexus tradition, the event was once again opened by GS1 Australia‘s esteemed leader, executive director, and CEO Maria Palazzolo. Maria was our talented MC for the occasion – she not only opened the presentation, but also kindly shared her own incredible journey of success, and how she climbed the corporate ladder to where she is today.

Next up, it was time for the lady of the hour herself – Sheree Rubinstein. Starting out as a corporate lawyer, Sheree turned her back on the ruthless world of law to become an entrepreneur and founded her female-led, co-working space empire called ‘One Roof’.

She started out by renting an Airbnb in St Kilda and within the first week had hundreds of people walking through the doors. This was all the confirmation Sheree needed that there was an obvious gap in business leadership: a need for a female-focused co-working space. Before long, the little pop-up space grew into what it is today: a physical hub providing everything a female entrepreneur and women-led businesses need to thrive.

Sheree shared details of her life journey, career highlights, and of course, the struggles she endured working as a female lawyer in a male-dominated field. Her passion for helping and supporting other women in business was truly inspiring.

During the presentation we were treated to a delicious feast of hot and cold lunch platters to nibble on from our fabulous foodie friends at XS Roasting Kitchen. Many attendees stayed back to chat with both Sheree and Maria, and because the event took place before social distancing was a thing, we all huddled together for a gorgeous group photo.

It’s fair to say that everyone left that day feeling a little more inspired with their confidence boosted.

Feel Good February Meditation Workshop

We know that our community loves mindfulness practices. So, when we hosted a workshop that combined mindfulness with meditation and a dash of yoga, we knew we were onto a good thing.

Therefore, it was no surprise that this session was popular with loads of interest from the community – it was a packed house on the day.

This workshop was led by the wonderful Kara, a qualified Ashtanga yoga teacher. Kara kicked off the class with some practical pranayama breathing exercises and breath awareness work. By making us all slow down and concentrate on our breathing, it put the body and mind in the right state for self-awareness and mindfulness.

Next up, we took part in a gentle, slow flow restorative yoga practice. Restorative yoga is much slower than our usual Tuesday Vinyasa class, with each pose held for longer periods of time, allowing the muscles to fully relax and really settle into each pose.

Lastly, we finished off this blissfully relaxing session with a 15-minute guided meditation exercise and Shavasana. This exercise was great for beginners and people who struggle to meditate.

Starting with a complete body scan, we turn our awareness inward to connect with the breath, mind, body, and soul and then just when we thought we couldn’t be any more relaxed.

We were all so chilled that some of our attendees may or may not have drifted off to sleep on a little micro-nap, with Kara making mention that we were some of the most zen people she had ever worked with.

Feel Good February

We dedicated the month of February to making our community feel good, look good and be your best you, starting with a healthy nutrition workshop. 

Run in partnership with Pinnacle Health Club and hosted by their resident dietician, Mikaela Welti, this lunchtime workshop was insightful and informative, giving us great nutritional advice, handy tips, and probably most importantly, healthy meal ideas that we can easily replicate.

Mikaela is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD), qualified personal trainer, and owner and founder of her own nutrition business Welti Wellness – so she’s well and truly an expert in her field.

Mikaela began the session by running through the basic principals of good nutritional advice using the ‘Australian Guide to Healthy Eating’ food pyramid. This guide is the holy grail on food selection, outlining the types and amounts of foods we should eat daily from the five food groups.

We learned how to boost our daily nutrient and vitamin intake, which fuels our bodies for greater productivity and Mikaela also shared some clever little ways that we can curb those 3pm sugar cravings with nutritious and satisfying snack ideas.

Lastly, we learned about the importance of gut health and how having balanced gut flora can play a crucial role in our overall health. Plus, as an added bonus, every participant who attended also received a 28-day healthy meal plan to take home.

There was huge interest from our community and we had a full house. Plus, many people stayed back after the session to chat with Mikaela to have all their health questions answered.

We hope everyone enjoyed the workshop and left the session feeling a lot more knowledgeable in regards to healthy eating. 

Bushfire Fundraiser

On Wednesday 29 January, GS1 Australia’s talented event coordinator, Danni organised a morning full of connection, reflection, and mindfulness to raise funds for selected Victorian bushfire charities. 

On Wednesday 29 January, GS1 Australia’s talented event coordinator, Danni organised a morning full of connection, reflection, and mindfulness to raise funds for selected Victorian bushfire charities. 

For $57 per person, attendees enjoyed a magnificent morning consisting of a 30-minute mindful meditation practice, followed by a blissful one-hour yoga session, all capped off by a delicious healthy breakfast spread to finish. What an amazing way to start your day (and hump day nonetheless!)

100% of all proceeds raised from ticket sales were evenly split and donated directly to the CFA to continue their live-saving fire fighting efforts; Wildlife Victoria to help care for all of our beautiful native animals; and It’s My Shout!, who help out small business owners in affected communities get back on their feet. Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from the day.

All wrapped up: Our 2019 Nexus Christmas Funland

We like to party, and apparently so do all of you! That’s why we throw our annual Nexus Christmas party to show our community how much we appreciate you. It’s now become a beloved Nexus tradition.

Held on Thursday 12 December from 11am to 2pm, our lunchtime celebration consisted of fun games to play (courtesy of our friends at Action Events), sweet treats to eat (courtesy of Green & Black’s chocolate) and music to boogie too (courtesy of our awesome DJ from Music With Memories).

With so much free entertainment on offer and so many cool things to try out, we think you’d all agree it was definitely a wonderful way to spend a lunch break. We had mini golf, giant Jenga, giant Connect Four, giant chess and a foosball table. The most popular games on the day were definitely the mini golf and Jenga, on high rotation throughout the duration of the party.

It goes without saying that our Photobooth was a major drawcard too, and when it’s located inside a super-cool vintage VW Kombi (courtesy of the amazing The Photobooth Girl team) we totally understand why. It was non-stop happy-snap selfie-central as tonnes of our community members lined up patiently for their turn.

Did someone say free chocolate? Yes, we did! Our very generous friends at Green & Black’s gave us an abundant supply of chocolate – enough to feed a small village! We’re happy to report that we gave away over 1,000 bars on the day! Just take a look at all the happy smiles below.

The party was held during lunchtime and that means that we have to eat, too. XS Roasting Kitchen did not disappoint with their spit-roast chicken and lamb souvlakis cooked over charcoal – yum!

Our Men’s Health Workshop

Movember may be over for yet another year, but we think it deserves to be highlighted all year round.

To honour the Movember initiative, we hosted our very own Men’s Better Heath Workshop to help raise awareness of the importance of looking after your health.

Run in partnership with In Bloom Project, this session was hosted by Dylan Roos, son of AFL coach and legend Paul Roos. Dylan specialises in men’s health and wellness, is a Health Coach and NLP Master Practitioner and is also the founder of the Roos Men’s Wellness & Leadership Club, a club which aims to create a community for like-minded men to learn about health and wellness tools to live a well-balanced life.

In this session, Dylan covered all sorts of men’s health-related issues, from physical health and diseases through to mental and emotional health. He gave us lots of easy easy-to-action tools and exercises that we can do in our own time to help us with our own mental health, as well as help others around us.

Although there were some pretty serious topics covered in this session, Dylan managed to talk about them in an inclusive and supportive way, making everyone feel comfortable and encouraging plenty of audience participation.

It was wonderful to see so many people sharing their own thoughts and experiences and we hope our attendees got some valuable information and action points out of it.
